NEW MODIFIED TOUR COMES TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

A new series for modifieds is slated for the 2014 season and will be headlined at the Northern California asphalt tracks. The North State Challenge Series Modified Tour, designed for IMCA type modifieds, will include races at Shasta Speedway, Ukiah Speedway and Lakeport Speedway with possible events at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka and All American Speedway in Roseville.

The 2014 schedule will be released next month. It will work in conjunction with Lucas Oil and have a similar format, but will not conflict with any of the Lucas Oil modified shows. Plans are to have one “big” show per month The series will be announcing its head-liner sponsor soon. . Along with Lucas Oil, the modified series will also be supported by several associate sponsors as well as contingency sponsors.

Organizer of the series, Jeff Stephens of Sacramento, is a long-time racer and car owner of the Firehouse Racing Team. He has joined forces with 2003 Auto Racing Promoters of the Year Bob and Nadine Strauss and race promoter Blair Aiken to promote the modified tour. The Strauss’ were the promoters at the Lakeport Speedway for 23 years. They brought the first asphalt modified to California in 1990 where Bob raced in this class for 20 years. He along with Aiken will be inspecting the cars at each race, making sure each car meets the rules. Aiken is the past promoter of Ukiah Speedway. He operated this race track for 11 years before taking on the track manager job at Shasta Speedway for the 2013-2014 racing seasons.
