MADERA, CALIFORNIA (August 13, 2016)Darrin Knight and Jeremy Doss both extended their points leads, taking touring series victories on a busy night at LoanMart Madera Speedway. Knight, from Kelseyville, CA, and Doss, from Upperlake, CA, both hail over 250 miles north of the 1/3rd mile speedway. Knight won the Sunoco Fuels 60 for the North State Modifieds, presented by Protect the Harvest, while Doss’ win came in the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com.

NORTH STATE MODIFIEDS

Knight’s win in the North State Modifieds was convincing as he led Charlie Collins in a close duel throughout the closing laps. Nick Lyons started on the outside pole and took the lead from Terry Deal on the initial start. Charlie Collins and Mike Collins navigated the pack from eighth and sixth starting positions respectively. Knight lined up on the fifth row with June 11th North State Madera winner Jason Philpot of Sacramento alongside. Knight was quickly on the move and was up into third on lap five using the outside line.

Knight then took over second with Charlie Collins up third behind him by lap ten. Four rounds later Knight moved to the high side and made the outside pass on Lyons to gain control and take the lead.

Knight, Lyons and Collins staged a nice battle before a red flag when Benny Moon lost an engine in turn one. Knight chose the outside groove on the restart and jetted ahead again. Collins went to work on Lyons for second. The battle continued until Lyons was finally shuffled to the outside line and freight trained back to sixth position.

At the halfway point of the 60 lap race Knight held the lead with Charlie Collins in hot pursuit. Philpot was next followed by Mike Collins, Darrin Sullivan, Lyons, Joe Rhodes Jr, Sierra Furia and Terry Deal.

Heavy lapped traffic in the final five laps of the race allowed Collins within half a second but never closer. Knight got the $1000 win over Collins, Philpot, Mike Collins, and Darrin Sullivan. Lyons eventually finished sixth followed by Rhodes, Furia and Kevin Coburn. Josh Stewart and Benny Moon suffered mishaps and did not finish.

In the Lucas Oil Dash for Cash Coburn collected $100 for the win, with Moon getting $50 for second.

Knight clocked in fastest at 14.940 seconds to earn the Penney Racing Supply/Sunoco Fast Time Award. He also took home the Wenteq Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

Lyons collected the Naake Suspension award, and the DJ Safety Certificate went to Rhodes. The Scribner Plastics went to Stewart and Moon.

The North State Modified Series rolls back into Ukiah Speedway on August 27th for the American Racer PRS 60.

The The North State Modified Series is presented by: Protect the Harvest, Swartz Diesel, Lucas Oil, Sinister Diesel, Penney Racing Supply, American Racer Tires, Naake Suspension, Sunoco Fuels, Five Star Bodies, Wrap Star Pro, Wenteq, Scribner Plastics, DJ Safety, and the Buckhorn Bar and Grill.

SUNOCO/PENNEY RACING SUPPLY TIME TRIALS: Darrin Knight (14.940), Jason Philpot (14.970), Charlie Collins (15.037), Darrin Sullivan (15.098), Mike Collins (15.164), Sierra Furia (15.180), Joe Rhodes (15.215), Josh Stewart (15.293), Nick Lyons (15.8410, Terry Deal (15.579), Benny Moon (15.658), Kevin Coburn (15.660)

SUNOCO FUELS 60: Darrin Knight, Charlie Collins, Jason Philpot, Mike Collins, Darrin Sullivan, Nick Lyons, Joe Rhodes, Sierra Furia, Terry Deal, Kevin Coburn, Josh Stewart, Benny Moon

PCS LATE MODELS

Doss’ win was his 18th career victory in the series. Jason Romero made his first career Madera start after sweeping both Roseville races this year. He led practice, set a new track record at a 14.162, and proceeded to win the American Racer Tire dash for a set of tires and the pole position.

Romero’s pole was short lived at the start of the feature as Valley Springs’ Tracy Bolin swept around the outside to lead lap one. Romero fell into the clutches of Doss for second in a back-and-forth battle until Doss spun with contact from Ross Strmiska on lap five. Lodi’s Matt Wendt suffered a flat right front tire and slight damage trying to avoid the spin. Mike Beeler also was caught up in the incident.

Doss took over the lead from Bolin on the restart and Herzog used the restart to get around Jeff Bishofberger for third. Travis Milburn started turning up the heat as he got around Chris Scribner for sixth on lap 24 and then overhauled Shannon Mansch for fifth on the outside on lap 32.

The Herzog and Bischofberger battle was very physical with the drivers snaking three-wide through lapped traffic. The long 34 lap green flag run ended on lap 40 for a brief caution. Lap 41 proved to be difficult to overcome with a series of spins. Most notably Matthew Wendt suffered damage when he tangled with Strmiska.

Colby Potts suffered heavy front end damage to his Camaro and a few laps later tangled hard with Don Swartz‘ Mustang for a lap 45 caution. Potts was done for the evening.

All the following restarts were single file which gave Doss a cushion over the continuing battling between Bolin and Herzog. Herzog got around on the outside for second on lap 49 to turn his attention to Doss. Mansch spun with contact from Strmiska for a lap 51 caution that set up the battle to the finish.

Herzog made his mark, diving inside Doss several times and making contact in turn four to lead lap 55. Doss charged back on the outside to lead lap 56 and would not be deterred as he drove away for a 1.7 second win ahead of Herzog, Bolin, Bischofberger, and Romero for a comeback run to fifth.

Tim Kaeding Takes Knoxville Nationals by Storm on Night 2

Tim Kaeding wins at Knoxville

Outlaw Jason Johnson takes the night in points standings

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Aug. 11, 2016 – Night two of the 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores was more than a race to the finish on the A-Main; it was a race in time to beat the impending storms. And Tim Kaeding nailed it. “King of California” Kaeding took to Victory Lane just before severe thunderstorms storms descended on Knoxville.

“I’ve got to give this one to B.C.,” said Kaeding, dedicating his win to Bryan Clauson. “Here’s another one towards your 200. I grew up racing with his Dad. Just a great family and a hell of a racecar driver.” It was an emotional night with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. leading the field under parade laps driving Bryan Clauson’s 17W.

Thursday’s 25-lap A-Main is Kaeding’s third career Knoxville Nationals preliminary feature. “It’s so unbelievable,” said Kaeding. “We’ve struggled so bad here at Knoxville the last few years, especially in this 3[K] car. We had a win taken away last year, because we had a muffler that was tampered with more than anything. You know, we’ve been fast. We just haven’t been as fast as we need to be, so for us to be able to come out tonight and win prelim night at Knoxville is a feat within itself.”

With 20 World of Outlaws Craftsman@ Sprint Car Series victories under his belt, Kaeding charged from fourth position to second at the wave of the green, tailing Dale Blaney and finally passing him in Lap 8.

A later caution for Justin Henderson, then in third, cleared the field for Outlaw Jason Johnson and last year’s Knoxville Nationals Night 2 winner Terry McCarl to pass Blaney and duke it out for second in the final laps. McCarl managed to take it for a moment in Lap 22, but couldn’t hold it, and Johnson shot forward, looking to Kaeding just a little too late.
Coming out of Heat 1, where McCarl scored the fourth spot, the Price Chopper No. 7x had a quick engine change. “We were kind of in a hurry there, and I didn’t get the car set up exactly the way I wanted to,”said McCarl. “I think we can definitely be a lot better come Saturday night.”
Meanwhile, it was a good night for the Outlaws in Time Trials with Brad Sweet making quicktime at 15.465 seconds (and winning the Last Chance Showdown), followed by Outlaws Joey Saldana and David Gravel, former Outlaw Kerry Madsen, and Outlaw Jason Johnson, who later scored his second place spot in the A-Main.
“It’s great confidence for my race team,” said Johnson. “To be part of the World of Outlaws category you’ve got to defend your territory. Obviously we wanted to win, but I felt like we had a really good run.”
Two Outlaws will lead the field to green on Saturday night, Daryn Pittman and Jason Johnson.
Going into Friday’s 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals, Daryn Pittman holds the lead in points standings with 485 points. Jason Johnson holds a close second with 481, followed by Kerry Madsen at 479, and Jamie Veal at 477. Donny Schatz and Chad Kemenah are tied for the fifth spot at 476.
The 56th 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores continues tomorrow night. To learn more or buy tickets, visit www.woosprint.com/knoxville-nationals.

THUNDER AND LIGHTING AT MADERA SPEEDWAY THIS WEEKEND

Darrin Knight #20
Darrin Sullivan (#21) races alongside North State Modified Series points leader Darrin Knight (#20). Sullivan is second in points going into the Madera race.

By Steven Blakesley

MADERA, CALIFORNIA (August 8, 2016) – A dual-headliner show at Madera Speedway on Saturday night will give valley race fans the best of both worlds with the Pacific Challenge Series Super Late Models bringing the thunder and North State Modifieds bringing the lightning to the fastest one-third mile in the west. MAVTV cameras will again be rolling for the 75 lap feature for the PCS while the Modifieds will race for 60 laps. CSS 360 Super Modifieds headline an undercard that includes USAC HPD Midgets, MSTs, and Toyota Sedans.

For the Pacific Challenge Series, parody has been the name of the game with six different winners in eight races at five different tracks. 2014 champion Mike Beeler of Modesto has won the last two races for the series to close within 18 points of leader Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, CA. Jacob Gomes won the first PCS appearance at Madera on March 19th, while Tracy Bolin set a new track record in qualifying. Track records have been broken at nearly every race this year as the PCS continues to be one of the fastest stock car tours around.

The North State Modifieds staged one of the most exciting and deepest races of the entire Madera season when they raced on June 11th during the Lucas Oil Summertime Horsepower Nationals. Popular Sacramento-area driver Jason Philpot scored a new track record and picked up the 60 lap victory.

The series notably attracts most of its drivers from the Lakeport area making for a long tow to Madera. That long tow has not deterred Kelseyville’s Darrin Knight as he leads the championship points battle by 78 points. Darrin Sullivan2, also from Kelseyville, is running second with Lakeport drivers Mike Collins and Charlie Collins next in line. Codi Barba of Cobb sits in fifth place.

An open practice kicks off the weekend on Friday before another full day of action on Saturday. Pit gates open at noon with practice from 1:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Qualifying will follow with heats and dashes at 5:45 p.m. Opening ceremonies and the main events begin at 6:30 p.m.

Circular Insanity Tour Comes to the Louie Vermeil Classic in September

Louie Vermeil Classic 2016

Indy 500 Vet Clauson, USAC Champions Bacon and Ballou Headline Entries

by: Troy Hennig

ROSEVILLE, CA – (August 2, 2016)…Three-time Indy 500 veteran and two-time USAC National Sprint Car Champion Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN, leads an impressive list of sprint car drivers into the upcoming 9th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga Speedway.
On top of the local drivers, numerous USAC driving Sprint Car champions will be on hand trying to capture the $6500 in prize money offered to each night’s main event winner.

The 9th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic is scheduled to take place September 3rd and 4th at the Napa Valley Fairgrounds in Calistoga. The scenic half-mile dirt oval race track will also host the Honda USAC Western Midget Series along with the Amsoil USAC/CRA sprint cars. The Midget main events will pay each night’s winner a staggering $10,000.

Clauson, originally from nearby Carmichael, CA, is in the midst of his “Chasing 200 Circular Insanity Tour.” Clauson is trying to become the first driver to enter 200 racing events in one calendar year. As of this press release, Clauson has competed in 113 races. He currently has 26 wins, 51 top five and 71 top ten feature finishes. During this season Clauson has raced a diverse line-up of open wheel vehicles including the Dale Coyne/Jonathan Byrd’s Racing No. 88 at this year’s 100th running of the INDY 500, wing Sprint Car, non-winged Sprint Car, Midget, and Silver Crown divisions. During his “Circular Insanity” Clauson has competed at 53 different racetracks throughout 15 states as well as New Zealand.

Current USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car leader Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK is scheduled to compete at the Louie Vermeil Classic. Bacon, the 2014 USAC National Sprint Car Champion, is also in the midst of a long season. By the time Bacon sets foot in Calistoga he will have competed in over 80 events.

The Madman Robert Ballou is booked for both nights of racing at the Louie Vermeil Classic. The 2015 USAC National Sprint Car Champion is currently residing in Indiana but grew up in Rocklin, CA and is still beloved by the locals who only get to see him race at Calistoga.

Other top notch sprint car drivers scheduled to appear include Minden, Nevada Tanner Thorson driving the famed Clyde and Marian Lamar #3c, defending Louie Vermeil Sunday night winner Ryan Bernal of Hollister, CA, and the 2015 King of the West Sprint Car Champion Carson Macedo of Lemoore, CA driving the Tarlton Racing #21t.

Along with a stellar line up of Amsoil USAC/CRA southern California regulars Visalia’s Richard Vander Weerd currently holds a six point lead over Anaheim’s Jake Swanson and a seven point cushion over Concord’s Damion Gardner. Expect these top three along with Temecula’s Mike Spencer and Yorba Linda’s Austin, Cody and Logan Williams. In all, nearly 30 sprint car drivers are expected to compete during the Labor Day weekend of races.

Ukiah Speedway Results 7/30/16

Modifieds Racing to the Checkered Flag

The excitement of paved track racing returned once again to Ukiah Speedway Saturday July 30th. Braving high temperatures, the track was active with Taco Bell Bombers, Jammers, Modifieds and the infield with T&T Towing Jalopies.

Jammers Driver Brandi Robertson was the driver to beat. Robertson swept her division for the night taking the win in the both the heat and main races in her number 14. Robertson’s wins moved her up from 6th to 4th in championship points, but Elizabeth Ingals still maintains the first rank with a close lead over second place Gene O’Dell Sr with only 5 points separating them.

Taco Bell Bombers thrilled the fans with an action packed series of races. The 96 of RJ Randall scored twin victories in the A Heat Race and Main Event while B Division driver Brandon Verde crossed the finish line first in the B Division Heat Race scoring another victory and solidifying his points lead for the Taco Bell Bombers B Division. Though A Division driver Bob Mook did not have great finishes, he still maintains a healthy championship points lead in the Taco Bell Bombers A Division.

T&T Towing Jalopies flung some mud and entertained the crowd on the infield. Being an entry level racing division, with less stringent requirements, the drivers are very excited to get out there and show off their skills. Brandon Small took the win in his number 7 for the first Jalopy Heat Race of the night while Wayne Hunt drove his number 1 to the number one position in the second Heat Race. The main event was won by the 707 of Johnny Small in a dusty, mud filled victory.

The Modifieds put on a strong showing with Darrin Sullivan in number 21 taking the win in the Modified heat race but Mike Collins drove number 24 across the finish line first in the Second Heat Race and Main race taking the win in both races. Darrin Knight still holds first position in championship points with 35 points separating him and Mike Collins.

ENTRIES POSTED FOR KYLE LARSON’S OUTLAW KART SHOWCASE

Kyle Larson's Outlaw Kart Showcase

Larson, Chili Bowl Champion Abreu, Indy 500 Vet Clauson, Headline Entry List

CORNELIUS, N.C. – (August 2, 2016)

More than 160 total entries have now been recorded for Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase Presented by ParkerStore. The event will be held Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 5 and 6, at Cycleland Speedway in Chico, Calif. The entry list, headlined by Larson himself, boasts drivers from 13 states, ranging in age from 7 to 60 in the three divisions – Box Stock, 250 Intermediate, and Open.

Two-time defending Chili Bowl Midget Nationals champion, Rico Abreu, will also be competing again in the Showcase. Abreu, a full-time regular in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has 8 race wins this year in open wheel cars, including Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions Dirt Classic at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana on July 23rd.

Also entered is former Northern California resident Bryan Clauson, now of Noblesville, Indiana. Clauson is attempting to compete in 200 total racing events this year, one of which is last May’s Indianapolis 500. He’s currently competed in an incredible 112 events against the toughest open wheel series in the country and in New Zealand, already winning 26 features this season.

Other open wheel drivers entered into the event include David Gravel, currently second in the World of Outlaws point standings, and Brad Sweet, the 2013 Kings Royal Champion. Paul McMahan, originally from Larson’s hometown of Elk Grove, CA, is another WoO competitor entered. Defending Outlaw Kart Showcase winner Colby Copeland will be back to take on all comers, as will Tanner Thorson, 2015 National Midget Driver of the Year, who is still very active in outlaw karts.

“The entry list this year really has some standout names,” said Larson. “These are some of the biggest stars in grassroots racing, and this is shaping up to be another great show this year. I can’t wait to race against these guys, and all the top outlaw kart specialists that I know will be gunning for us.”

Top kart racer Logan Seavey, considered by some as the best in outlaw kart racing and winner of the 2015 Speed Sport Challenge at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, N.C., is also entered. Other kart racers who have sent in entries include Karsyn Elledge, from Mooresville, N.C., granddaughter of the late Dale Earnhardt, Kyle Hossfeld, the recent winner of the Wild West Shootout at Big Sky Kartway in Missoula, Montana, and the current top three in Cycleland Speedway points, Tanner Carrick, Jodie Robinson and Morgan Sandhagen.

Morgan Sandhagen Outduels the Field, Wins First Cycleland Open Main Event

Morgan Sandhagen

By: Elijah Jones

On an extremely hot night at the Cycleland Speedway the action on the track was even hotter, as we saw six exciting Main Events take place at Lowell Moural’s playground. The car count was a little lighter than usual with just 76 total cars signed into the pit area, but the talent level in those 76 cars was second to none.

The 25 Lap Open Main Event was far and away the best race of the night and could be one of the best races to ever take place at the track. The first half of the race was all about Chico, CA driver Taylor Nelson in the SGC #74. Taylor led until past the halfway point. Following a restart just past the midway point of the race, Jesse Colwell attempted to make the pass for the lead going into turn three. The two made contact and spun to a stop, eliminating their chances at picking up a win. With those two dropping to the back of the field, RJ Johnson would inherit the race lead, with Morgan Sandhagen, Logan Seavey, and Tyler Seavey in tow. Those four drivers would put on one of the most exciting and clean races you will ever see. The lead was swapped more times in 5 laps than a 500 mile race at Talladega. In just one lap 4 different drivers were leading the race at one point. With the track wide and slick it was all about finding the little bit of moisture that was left. When the white flag waved it was three wide for the race lead. Logan Seavey threw a “hailmary slider” as he called it, going into turns three and four. He cleared Morgan Sandhagen, but Sandhagen turned the car to the bottom and drove straight to the line where she just edged Logan Seavey at the line by just .015 seconds. Garrett Brown was the Hard Charger of the night as he charged from his 14th starting spot to finish in the 3rd position. RJ Johnson had his best run of the season finishing 4th. While Jodie Robinson rounded out the Top Five in 5th. Logan Seavey was Fast Time in Qualifying with a Lap Time of 10.471 seconds. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Taylor Nelson and Morgan Sandhagen. While Logan Seavey won his First Trophy Dash of 2016.

The Box Stock Main Event was another Barnburner that saw Carson Hammes hold off a late race charge by the Point Leader Preston Carr to pick up his 2nd Win of the Season. Preston Carr who already has 8 wins this season would have to settle for 2nd. Evan Burrola challenged for the lead early but would finish 3rd. While Seth Standley and Chance Grasty rounded out the Top Five. Preston Carr was fastest in Time Trials for the 8th time this season, by way of turning a lap in just 12.018 seconds. Evan Burrola won the Lone Heat Race for the class. While Preston Carr won his 11th Trophy Dash in 13 races this season!

Dawson Hammes has been a force to be reckoned with in the 250 Intermediate Class this season. Dawson picked up his 7th win of the 2016 Season tonight, after making a late race pass on Blaine Baxter. This marks the first time that both the Hammes Brother’s have won on the same night, as Dawson’s younger brother Carson won the Box Stock Main. Blaine Baxter finished 2nd, but deserves a ton of credit. He led the entire race until a car spun right in front of him in turn 4, Blaine had to get on the brakes to avoid hitting the stopped car, which allowed Hammes to scoot past on the outside of the track. Raymond Baldez had a solid night finishing in the 3rd position. While Kaiden Butler and Keagan Medeiros rounded out the top five. Raymond Baldez picked up his 5th Fast Time of the Season by way of turning a lap of 10.694 seconds. Blaine Baxter won the lone heat race. While Keagan Medeiros won a controversial Trophy Dash, as he used the bumper to move the ‪#‎22K‬ of Kaiden Butler up the track as they were coming to the White Flag. Butler tried to return the favor in turn one but ended up parked facing the wrong direction. The Trophy Dash win was Keagan’s 2nd of the Season.

Daniel Whitley dominated the Open Intermediate Main Event. Daniel has picked up asphalt racing over the last month as he has been racing Legend cars when not at Cycleland. It must be helping him out on dirt as well because he won by more than Three seconds over 2nd place finisher Brock Butterfield. Landon Brooks hounded Butterfield all race long but couldnt quite find a way to get by and settled for the 3rd spot. While Josh Wooten would finish 4th and Mike Ficklin was scored 5th to round out the top five. Jodie Robinson was Fast Time with a lap of 10.765 seconds, she also was Victorious in the Trophy Dash. She looked to have the car to beat until she was sidelined with a mechanical issue on the first lap of the Main Event.

It was a “Lover’s Quarrel” at the front of the Sportsman Main Event tonight as Mike Moore and Leana Kenyon (Who are Boyfriend and Girlfriend) started on the Front Row of the Main Event. Moore would get the initial jump on the start and would take off into the race lead. Leana though would not let him get away. She hounded Moore for the entire 20 Laps but could never quite get around him. Moore was able to hang on to get his First Win of the Season. Kenyon would settle for the 2nd spot. Alec Justeson crossed the line in 3rd. While Brian Seim and Travis Henry would round out the Top Five. Travis Henry was Fastest in Time Trials for the 3rd time this season with a lap of 10.901 seconds. Mike Moore won the lone heat race. While Brian Seim was victorious in the Trophy Dash. Seim is one of the good guys at the track and it was good to see him pick up the Trophy Dash Win.

We return to action next Saturday Night, August 6th for the Annual QRC Cup Perpetual Trophy Night. The event will mark Point Race #13 of the season. This race is sure to draw all of the top drivers on the West Coast as they vie for a chance to take home the prestigious 6 Foot Tall Trophy. Be sure to join us then as Hot Laps will start at 5:30pm. AJ Allmendinger Indianapolis Motor Speedway Post Race Report

AJ Allmendinger was knocking on the door to the top 10 when he lost water pressure due to an issue with his radiator that ultimately expired his engine. Not long after slight contact the No. 6 car (Trevor Bayne), Allmendinger noticed at lap 69 he was losing water pressure and three laps later he was in the garage and his day was done at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Allmendinger was credited with a 38th-place finish.

“I started the race off tight, which we were afraid of getting too loose and it’s something we kind of fought (tight) all weekend,” Allmendinger said. “The first adjustment on the No. 47 Kroger/Kingsford Chevy under green wasn’t very good because it kind of got me tighter, but I learned some stuff at the end of the run and I thought we started making a little bit of time back. We had a good restart there on that second one and whatever the adjustments we made, we were really good there. The No. 6 (Trevor Bayne) car was just kind of slow off Turn 4. I was trying to time it. He was just kind of in the way, so I just tried to time it a little bit and make the pass. I just nicked him as I went by with my right-front. Honestly, I didn’t think anything of it and evidently it poked a hole in the radiator when it did it. There was barely any damage to the car. So, I’m not sure why it got the radiator so bad, but the engine lost water pressure and it blew up. Whatever the last adjustment was on the car, it was really fast. That was something I could really work on. I think there are positives. I think we can get the back of our cars really good when we focus on that. We have got to keep working on the front of the car. It would have been fun to see how everything played out. I was having fun out there with the No. 47 Kroger/Kingsford Chevy.”

“We just had an unfortunate failure with what looks like, the radiator, that caused the motor to lose water pressure,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “It caused the motor to come apart. We got a pretty late warning on that. We had good speed. Our No. 47 Kroger/Kingsford Chevy made gains all race long. We had a good stop and then AJ had a great restart and got us up to 11th. I thought we were going to be able to maintain because we had some pretty good speed. We got some track position and then had our unfortunate failure.”

KNIGHT INCREASES NSMS POINTS LEAD WITH REDWOOD ACRES VICTORY

July 23, 2016. ….Eureka, CA….. The North State Modified Series, presented by Protect the Harvest, returned to Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka Saturday night as a part of the Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram night at the races. Seventeen modifieds took part in the action with NSMS points leader Darrin Knight of Kelseyville the man of the hour, first setting fast time of 16.192 seconds and then passing Darin Snider (Kelseyville) on lap 35 to collect $1000 for his win in the Swartz Diesel Super 60 feature.

Mike Collins (Lakeport) lead the field to the start but when the cars entered into the first corner it was Snider who blasted into the early lead. All cars finished lap one, but on the second circuit Rick Andersen (North Highlands) slapped the wall on the backstretch, and when he tried to recover he clipped Eric Johnson’s car. The impact sent Andersen into a 360 spin, and although all cars continued, the incident created a blinding dust barrier bringing out the yellow flag.

Snider chose to restart in the outside lane and once again took control of the race with Mike Collins second, Knight third, Charlie Collins fourth and Darrin Sullivan fifth. Richie Potts swapped places with Sullivan to join the top five.

Knight was on a mission and dove under Mike Collins for second on lap four. Charlie Collins followed his line, also moving under Mike Collins for third. Meanwhile Snider was putting a healthy distance between him and the rest of the pack. Knight slowly lessened the gap and was tight on Snider’s bumper by lap 18. Knight looked high and low, waiting for Snider to make a mistake.

Snider continued to lead, and at the Wrap Star Pro half-way marker it was Snider, Knight, Charlie Collins, Mike Collins, Potts, Sullivan, Johnson,, Rich Cobb, Sierra Furia, Andersen, Herman Pulyer, Codi Barba, Ian Elliott, Adrianna Strugnell, Orion Mosher and Randy Houston.

Five rounds later Snider’s car pushed slightly and it was all Knight needed to fill the space and take over the lead for good. Once again Charlie Collins capitalized on the move, followed Knight, and stole the runner-up slot from Snider. As the top four pulled away it was a good battle at mid-pack with Sullivan taking position away from Potts, and Andersen batting with Sierra Furia. The last half of the race saw the leaders flawlessly move through lapped traffic.

Snider’s car lost its power steering ending his run on lap 42. Barba lost a rear end and drove to the pits on 51. Knight lead the pack to the checkered flag followed by Charlie Collins, Mike Collins, Darrin Sullivan and Eric Johnson. Rounding out the top 10 were Potts, Andersen, Cobb, Pulyer and Furia.

In the Lucas Oil Dash for Cash Potts collected $100 for the win, with Johnson getting $50 for second. Charlie Collins earned the Wenteq Hard Charger Award. Cobb took home the Naake Suspension award, and the DJ Safety Certificate went to Sullivan. The Scribner Plastics went to Furia and Snider. Knight earned the Penney Racing Supply/Sunoco Fast Time Award.

Race #7 of North State Modified Series will be at Madera Speedway on August 13. The modifieds will run on the same card with the Pacific Challenge Series Late Models.

The North State Modified Series is presented by: Protect the Harvest, Swartz Diesel, Lucas Oil, Sinister Diesel, Penney Racing Supply, American Racer Tires, Naake Suspension, Sunoco Fuels, Five Star Bodies, Wrap Star Pro, Wenteq, Scribner Plastics, DJ Safety, Renner Petroleum and the Buckhorn Bar & Grill.
